Detoxification – An Ancient Ritual Diet

Much has been written about the detox diet (detoxification) over the decades. It seems the past ten years, roughly, have seen an explosion of these diets. The basic principle is the same across all of them, and that is to use foods (or liquids) to help your body get rid of toxins. First, we must caution you and suggest you talk to your doctor before embarking on any kind of detox diet. Many people turn to this overall approach when they want to lose weight. While it is possible to achieve that, we feel the loss will be temporary for a variety of reasons. We will talk more about the detox diet in the rest of this article. There are two basic approaches with many types of detox diets. First, the diet calls for avoiding foods that are known to introduce toxins in your body. Naturally, that is probably something every person should do, anyway. Secondly, the particular diet will recommend you eat foods, or drink liquids, that support the body’s ability to process and eliminate toxins. There is a fairly large variety of detox diets, and frequently they also require that your intake of calories is reduced, as well. You will find some that have you eat much smaller portions or even go on liquid fasting such as with juices, only.

The systems responsible for waste elimination, mainly the intestinal tract and digestion process, will have many products available to increase their productivity. For this reason, when you shop for detox aids, you will find enemas labeled as helpful for detoxification. Herbal enemas are reported to be very efficient as aiding in the elimination of blockages of waste matter that may have existed for a long time. Be aware that it’s not advisable to use commercial laxative products to help you promote detoxification. Psyllium (plantago psyllium), a husk product, is a natural by-product of plaintain and aids in elimination. It has been used successfully for decades. You might think that psyllium husk powder is just a laxative, but it’s properties are much more complex.

It does a fantastic job of loosening up and discharging toxic buildup throughout your intestinal tract because it is a heavy-duty fiber.

Some detox diet approaches use laxatives but not all of them do. Not only can laxatives can help with digestion, they can also help flush toxins from your body. Obviously, waste elimination is part of this process. Elimination is a critical component to the detoxification process. However, it may be more beneficial to focus on the health of your liver and kidneys. You should still consult with your doctor or a certified herbalist. Learning as much as you can is the key to successfully using the detox diet.

It’s doubtful that it would be easy to find any adult who wouldn’t benefit by a detox diet, even for a short period of time. Cultures that eat highly processed foods, such as America, would definitely benefit from an annual detoxification. Nonetheless, the very people that would benefit the most by a good detox diet are those who disdain any alternative approaches to health and, as a result, they don’t even consider something as healthful as a detox diet.
