Food combining chart?

Is there a food combining chart that will help me on the alkaline diet?

Question: Since deciding to start on the alkaline diet, I have been confused about what foods I can eat together and what foods I cannot combine. Is there any sort of a food combining chart that will help me put together meals that will keep me on plan for maximum effect from this diet?

health answers:

Absolutely! There are food combining charts readily available to help all followers of the alkaline diet. Some charts can be found for free online and others can be located in books and literature dedicated to the alkaline diet. While it seems complicated, the combinations of foods that can be eaten on the alkaline diet is actually pretty simple. For smoother digestion, vegetables with low- or no-starch may be combined with grains, starchy vegetables or proteins separately. Proteins like meat and beans and starchy vegetables, including potatoes and corn, may not be combined with grains like buckwheat, quinoa and millet. When considering fruits, melon may never be combined with anything else. Sweet fruits like bananas and dates can be eaten with sub-acid fruits, such as sweet cherries, apples and apricots. Acid fruits like oranges, lemons and limes, can be eaten with sub-acid fruits but not with other sweet fruits. Find a full food combining chart for a full list of foods that fall into each category, and never be afraid to refer to it when planning meals and snacks on the alkaline diet.

health answers:

No substitution chart is going to be perfect. One thing I noticed on this one that I disagree with is using 1 cup pancake mix for 1 cup baking mix. I think of Bisquick (baking mix) as having a lot more rising properties than pancake mix would have. I also disagree with some of the other substitutions as far as whether I’d like the end result if I used their substitute, but the quantities look ok.

Ken asks…

I’m hypoglycemic and dieting. How can I keep my blood sugar up while limiting calories?

Whenever I get symptoms (irritability, headaches, dizziness…) I always crave sugar, and I know logically that I’m supposed to eat other things instead (carbs with fat and protein at once) but I have trouble thinking of tiny snacks that involve all those things and are quick to make.

I’m trying to eat small things often, which is helpful, but it’s usually a matter of grabbing an apple, or an oatmeal bar, and these things don’t combine the three types of food. Good for dieting, bad for hypoglycemia.

Dieting would be so much easier if avoiding food didn’t make me grouchy and sick…

(Oh yeah, FYI, I’m 24 pounds above my “healthy weight”, according to the body mass index charts. So the dieting isn’t crazy. 😉

health answers:

Eat more protein: boil a dozen eggs and keep them handy, eat peanutbutter, keep a package of string cheese handy, eat a scoop of cottage cheese, eat a handful of nuts.
You’re probably both hypoglycemic and “sugar sensitive” which is why you crave sweets and feel bad after you eat them due to your specific body chemistry.
It may not be low blood sugar that makes you irritable and dizzy but it could be sugar withdrawals- you feel bad, you crave sugar, and you take a “hit”.
The best thing to do is to wean off all sweets and simple carbs first, balance your blood sugar and then worry about dieting. Trying to limit calories, eat sweets and manage your blood sugar is just going to make you feel bad for as long as you’re doing it.
Also, once you get your sugar under control, you’ll easily lose weight.

Your Questions About [heartburn]

Jenny asks…

This is my college application essay, what are my chances of getting into colleges?

I would like to share with you something about my current medical situation. Ordinarily I would not do so, as I am an intensely private person, but I now accept that my physical limitations have quite possibly impacted my high school performance in a negative manner, and I feel that it is only fair that you have this information. Therefore, I am reluctantly going to allow access to information that I would never, otherwise, speak of.

For the past several years, I have been afflicted by a physical situation that has sometimes interfered with my ability to focus, both in the classroom and out. I do not wish to be too specific about the symptoms of my disease, except to say that they are digestive in nature and sometimes require me to spend long periods of time in the Ladies’ Room. Despite my terrible discomfort, I refused to accept that there might be something wrong with me, and would not seek treatment. I know now that I should have been less determined to suffer in silence and more willing to accept help. Finally, my parents insisted on bringing the matter to the attention of a physician. I was tested, over a period of several weeks, for colon cancer, Crohn’s Disease, intestinal obstructions, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, Heliocobacter pylori (commonly known as ulcer), celiac sprue (commonly known as wheat allergy), lactose intolerance, gallstones, bile duct stones, sclerosing cholangitis (the narrowing of the bile ducts), “Sphincter of Oddi” dysfunction and pancreatitis. You can imagine how relieved I was to learn that I had none of these terrible diseases.

Finally, I received the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS or spastic colon) is a diagnosis of exclusion. It is a functional bowel disorder characterized by chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits in the absence of any detectable organic cause.[1] In some cases, the symptoms are relieved by bowel movements.[2] Diarrhea or constipation may predominate, or they may alternate (classified as IBS-D, IBS-C or IBS-A, respectively). IBS may begin after an infection (post-infectious, IBS-PI), a stressful life event, or onset of maturity without any other medical indicators.

Although there is no cure for IBS, there are treatments that attempt to relieve symptoms, including dietary adjustments, medication and psychological interventions. Patient education and a good doctor-patient relationship are also important.[2]

Several conditions may present as IBS including coeliac disease, fructose malabsorption,[3] mild infections, parasitic infections like giardiasis,[4] several inflammatory bowel diseases, functional chronic constipation, and chronic functional abdominal pain. In IBS, routine clinical tests yield no abnormalities, although the bowels may be more sensitive to certain stimuli, such as balloon insufflation testing. The exact cause of IBS is unknown. The most common theory is that IBS is a disorder of the interaction between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, although there may also be abnormalities in the gut flora or the immune system.[5][6]

IBS does not lead to more serious conditions in most patients.[7][8][9][10][11] However, it is a source of chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms and contributes to work absenteeism.[12][13] Researchers have reported that the high prevalence of IBS,[14][15][16] in conjunction with increased costs, produces a disease with a high societal cost.[17] It is also regarded as a chronic illness and can dramatically affect the quality of a sufferer’s life.

Once you have been given a clear diagnosis of IBS then you will have to figure out what is causing the IBS symptoms. Many IBS triggers can be found in the food you eat and the lifestyle you lead. The book “The IBS Formula” gives you an up to date look at IBS, what causes it and how to take control of your life from these symptoms. I take Digestive Advantage pills for IBS from Gentech for my IBS. They work great. The cheapest place I have found to get them is Amazon.com. If you order them through amazon’s subscription service they deliver them with free shipping. I take 1 or 2 a day and usually with a meal. It initially takes about 2-3 weeks for this to get into your system before it starts to work. So you will not notice any benefits till after the 2 or 3 weeks. Also many IBS sufferers take a fiber supplement. The other thing that helps is to get on an exercise routine. Sweating will help to get the toxins out of your body, that are causing the IBS symptoms. Stay away from greasy and sugary foods, these seem to cause IBS symptoms. For more information on IBS visit TheIBSFormula.com. Hope this helps!

Nutritionatlast answers:

It’s your ligaments stretching and preparing for the growth of your uterus, it’s caused by hormones. If it is like or worse than your period cramps or you have bleeding or spotting you should go to the ER or your doctor asap!

Ken asks…

What is this lower left side stomach pain?

I’ve been getting this really weird pain in the very bottom left side of my stomach and it doesn’t go away. I thought it might be gas but it’s not. I can’t feel anything by touching it but the pain kind of goes away when i push on it. I went to the bathroom so it’s not constipation and i’m afraid to take any pills not knowing what it is! i’m not sexually active so its not any type or pregnancy. Please help!

Nutritionatlast answers:

U could be lactose intolerant. I was getting this pain on the left side under my ribs for so long. I didnt know what it was, but that area always swelled up like a bubble was in there.

Turned out to be lactose intolerance. As soon as i cut out the dairy, it was gone THE NEXT day. Try it. If it works, then u probably developed lactose intolerance. It usually developes when people reach adulthood, for those that get it.

Major Health Benefits Of Consuming 100% Fruit Juice

Are you taking in the required amount of fruits each and every day of the week? The truth of the matter is almost 70% of People in the usa aren’t meeting these standards by far.  A good convenient way to get youngsters and grownups to help satisfy the suggested daily servings of fruits is by consuming 100% fruit juice. As a matter of fact, simply one 4-ounce glas of 100% juice equates to one complete portion of fruit.

Any fresh, canned, frozen or dried fruit or 100% fruit juice can be counted as part of the fruit group. Fruits can be whole, cut-up as well as pureed but ultimately you’d create the best affects when juicing your own. Do your research, read those juicer reviews before buying your own juicer.

All 100% juices contain naturally occuring phytonutrients, which are substances identified in fruits. Scientists presume that some fruits contain disease-preventative and disease fighting qualities too.

Here are a few accurate specifics with regards to the positive aspects of drinking 100% fruit juice:

* Zero Additional sugars. 100% fruit juice exclusively consists of all natural sugar as found in whole fruit
* Naturally nutritious and contains added vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, calcium and vitamine D
* Virtually all 100% juices contain merely 60-80 calories for each 4-ounce portion.
* 100% juice delivers much more dietary value than other drink
* Naturally-occuring phytonutrients, in other words, balanced vitamins and minerals found in fruits naturally

To obtain ultimate health and wellbeing benefits from ingesting fruit juice it truly is imperative to avoid intake of excessive portions of fruit juice. The following recommendations tend to be recommended: Reduce fruit juice to no more than 4 to 6 ounces every day for little children age 1 to 6 yrs and 8 to 12 oz every day for kids age 7 to 18 yrs, as stated by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

Assesing any food, juicer recipe or beverage goes further than simply monitoring calories to maintain good overall health. As a result, it’s very important to assess the product in its whole. 100% fruit juice is known as a source of key nutrients like folate, vitamine C and potassium. It’s been noted that those levels of vital nutrients are often higher in 100% fruit juice than within the whole fruit.

100% fruit juice is also presumed to prevent and fight sickness. Even though all these facts are typically not found on the actual content label many still tend to be an important element of sustaining good overall health. For instance, the sufficient source of phytonutrients substances found in fruits is very critical for you to keep your body and mind healthy and balanced as well as full of energy.

Several fruit juices have added vitamins and minerals such as Vitamine D to protect against bone loss and maintain your total bone well being. Fruit juices with calcium are an excellent source of calcium in your diet regime particularly with regard to those who are lactose-intolerant. Vitamine D, additionally, helps absorb the calcium in to the entire body for increased advantages.

The naturally-occuring phytonutrients (“fight-o-chemicals”) found within fruits are natural bioactive substances that work along with other plant nutrients and dietary fiber to help shield against sickness and stimulate high-quality well being. Experts surely have identified thousands of different varieties of substances, that will protect the body in a myriad of methods. Most consumers might be accustomed with the role that numerous phtochemicals play as anti-oxidants, safeguarding the body’s tissue and DNA from damage.

Names like lycopene, resveratrol, lutein, and quercetin are generally starting to become more and more familiar to consumers as research proceeds to identify the effective properties of these phytochemicals. Despite the fact that these compounds are not stated upon the Nutrition Facts panel of any fruit, vegetable or juice, Mother Nature has put them there for beneficial reason.

Research has shown that consuming 100% fruit juice is in all likelihood to result into a more nutritious and much healthier diet general. Appropriate intake of fruit juices is linked to an overall healthier eating routine which includes the decrease of total dietary fat, saturated fat as well as added sugar. It’s also mentioned that consuming 100% fruit juice can lead to the consumption of more whole fruit but is absolutely not presumed to lower the milk consumption in small children. Plenty of tasty juicer recipes are available to get your kids to finally take in those well needed vitamines and minerals and love it.

Natural Way of Healing Headaches

What causes headaches comes from numerous issues. What follows are some simple and basic recommendations. Most headaches are caused by dehydration and liver overload!!

1. Water: 90% of all headache syndromes are due to dehydration. Slowly but surely work your way up to a minimum of 96 ounces a day which is 3 quarts by drinking water slowly even if you have to drink just 4 ounces every20 minutes. Toxins created by diet and stress will be released with water. — HYDRATION IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST IF YOU WANT TO HELP YOURSELF.

2. Ileo Cecal Valve:  Every night at bedtime, MASSAGE YOUR ILEO-CECAL VALVE WHICH IS LOCATED 2 INCHES TO THE RIGHT OF THE NAVEL AND 2 INCHES DOWN . When the ileo-cecal valve is not opening and closing properly, the liver will not drain thus preventing the release of toxins which in turn causes headaches from venous congestion due to liver overload. Stress is the culprit causing the ileo-cecal valve to malfunction. So one can only imagine how many people suffer from this syndrome.

3. Castor Oil Pack: Edgar Cayce first channeled the information about Castor Oil Packs back in 1915. He said that the castor oil bean itself was blessed by Jesus and as such has the same healing ability as the “palm of Christ”. You can read an enormous amount of scholarship on their healing potential on “Google”. The castor oil packs literally clean up the liver from the outside/in.

**Set up the “Castor Oil Pack System” Right next to your bed so at night you can just reach over and place the pack over the liver for 20 minutes before a good night’s sleep. Try to do this 2-3 times per week.

4. Lemon Slice Tea: 1st thing in the morning. Cut a slice of a lemon and put it in the bottom of a cup; then pour boiling water in. Drink before drinking anything else. This will cause the release of the excess bile accumulated through the night and thus set the stage for less congestion throughout the day.

5. Milk Thistle: especially in the form of tea is also historically famous for decongesting an overloaded liver especially when the cause is drug use both pharmaceutical and recreational and alcohol consumption. A cup of freshly steeped tea at bedtime is definitely worth a try.

6. Feverfew: What’s historically famous for helping decongest an overloaded liver, is the herb “Feverfew”. It is a natural anti-inflammatory and documented to relieve headache pain especially migraine headache.

7. Hot Baths: at least 3 times per week using plenty of Epsom Salt and some Baking Soda

** Because heat is a vasodilator and dilation is an expansion of contracted uptight blood vessels, hot baths remove an enormous amount of toxins.. They are more apt to release the toxic overload they are carrying once these vessels open up.  An excellent resource for the kidneys to relax and release are also hot baths. Because of their dilating effect, hot baths will cool down the body even on the hottest of days. With hot bath therapy, water drinking is essential.

NOTE: When a person drinks too much alcohol, they wake up with a hangover. Alcohol is severely dehydrating. The hangover includes a headache and neck pain. Both headaches and neck pain are signs of an overloaded liver. Alcohol is also the final by-product of wheat digestion. So one can eat too much wheat and suffer the same exact symptoms as if they drank too much alcohol.
